Department of Interdisciplinary Research

 

In accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 792 dated September 21, 2019, "On the Fundamental Improvement of Archaeological Research," the National Archaeological Center was established. According to this Resolution, the "Interdisciplinary Research" department was opened at the end of 2019. Interdisciplinary research, which has emerged at the intersection of various sciences such as source studies, historiography, numismatics and epigraphy, archaeology, anthropology, and ethnography, aims to widely utilize modern methods of all social sciences. In this department, scientific research is conducted by comparing written sources and archaeological materials related to these social science fields.

The goal of interdisciplinary research is to highlight pressing issues of Central Asian history, including the history of our country, by comparing written sources and archaeological materials.

The main tasks of the department include:

  • Conducting scientific research on key issues of regional history;
  • Broad application of modern research methods in social sciences to archaeological studies conducted across the republic;
  • Referring to written sources in various languages for the localization of archaeological sites within the republic, translating them into Uzbek, and providing practical assistance in archaeological research;
  • Identifying epigraphic and numismatic materials discovered during excavations or accidentally found and presenting them to the scientific community;
  • Conducting ethnographic research and field studies in the field of anthropology;
  • Carrying out scientific research related to the material and spiritual culture of the Uzbek people;
  • Conducting scientific research on Uzbek statehood and ethnic history based on written sources and archaeological materials in various languages;
  • Training scientific personnel in the field of interdisciplinary research;
  • Establishing scientific connections with institutes under the Social Sciences Division of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, higher educational institutions, and foreign research centers.

Scientific research in this department is conducted in integration with archaeology and other social sciences. Currently, research is being carried out on the issue of self-identity in Uzbek history.
